Kevin McKinney

Executive Vice President

A mentor of mine once said, “We are going to build a place that people go to, not through”. This philosophy has stuck with me throughout my career and one of the many reasons I am passionate about what we do at HighSide. We strive to be a great business partner while also positively impacting every community we work with.

I began my career working for a large General Contractor based in Denver. After completing their training program and spending a few years working on large commercial projects, I quickly realized I wanted to be part of the larger development process, allowing me to influence the design and improve the overall construction experience. It was at this point in my career that I was given the opportunity to join one of the largest privately-owned Hotel developers in the country, Sage Hospitality. I spent 10 years with Sage as their VP of Design and Construction and was fortunate to work on multiple Hotel renovations, Historic rehabs, and new construction projects across the country. It was at Sage where I learned the positive impacts design and construction can have on a local community.

At HighSide, I am responsible for all high-level strategic decisions to ensure we are exceeding our client’s expectations and project goals.

Education: I earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Colorado State University.

Andrew Ellis

Director of Project Management

The built environment is the necessary epicenter of almost every industry. I enjoy using my expertise to help create this tangible environment that eventually becomes someone’s home, place of business, vacation, favorite restaurant, or school. Without the construction industry, most other industries would not exist.

I am ultimately responsible for the management, oversight, and execution of the HighSide Construction Management project portfolio. Prior to joining HighSide, I spent 8 years in project management at several ENR Top 100 general contractors, successfully executing over $400 million in projects across the country in various market segments including complex and high-profile commercial, hospitality, multi-family, retail, industrial process, life science, and educational. I am a results and relationship-driven leader with a strong ability to communicate effectively, manage conflict, solve problems, and deliver timely results to ensure project success. Exceeding expectations and delivering projects on time and under budget, all while maintaining strong relationships and superior client satisfaction is how I define success.

Education: I earned a Bachelor of Science, Summa Cum Laude, in Construction Management from Colorado State University.

Douglas Miller

Director of Preconstruction & Business Development

I realized long ago that I love preconstruction, because that is the stage of a project that can set a team up for success or ensure its failure. I simply love my role and believe this is where I can be great. My personal philosophy is that meaningful work absolutely involves developing great relationships with clients, teammates, and vendors.

Our Preconstruction work includes conceptual cost estimating, developing product standards for our unit based upgrade work, supply chain strategy, vendor and contractor solicitations and RFP’s, and design phase preconstruction management. I lead these efforts, but we are a team and by bringing in the project management team at critical times we can provide a level of preconstruction services that will ensure project success. Project success to me goes beyond the required hurdles of maintaining budget and schedule. I want everyone involved to look back on the experience as a great project. And that’s a high standard!

Everyone at HighSide is “Business Development”, I lead that culture and strategic opportunity pursuits for our organization. We believe in relationships, not regions, so our clients will have consistent and long term relationships with our team members. Our goal is to provide great service all the time and we avoid the dreaded “hand off” at all costs.

Education: I earned a Master of Science in Real Estate & Construction Management from University of Denver. I also earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and in Business Administration from University of Phoenix.

Geoff Arnold

Project Manager

I enjoy bringing tangible results to a project and the mental challenge that comes with it. Construction is unique in that there is obvious visual and functional performance related to every project we perform. I thoroughly enjoy solving problems, construction provides a real-life building block set in which each task must be performed at the right time, in the right sequence, and at the correct budget in order to be correct.

I’m an experienced construction professional in charge of management of HighSide’s projects. Over my career, I have worked on multiple major Denver area hospitality and multi-family projects delivering over 1000 rooms, along with several lobbies, restaurants, and amenity spaces. I define success by the enjoyment of the end user. Ultimately, construction gives us an opportunity to bring peoples design and dreams to reality. The excitement generated by the completion of a project that was on time, on budget, and surpasses aesthetic expectations are the most successful projects. Success means developing expectations, and then exceeding them.

Education: I earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Colorado State University.

Mark Hiner

Project Manager

There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a project start from a vision and end up a reality. I enjoy being involved in every step of this process. I love the feeling of delivering a space people are excited to experience while our clients are thrilled with our services.
I am a project manager for HighSide Construction Management responsible for the execution of HighSide’s projects.  Prior to joining HighSide, I worked for several general contractors in multiple sectors of the industry including residential, commercial, hospitality, education, manufacturing, infrastructure, federal, recreation, and industrial construction. Construction is not just building a building; it is about building relationships. I define success by not only delivering a quality product that exceeds our client’s expectations but by the relationships that are built along the way.
Education: I earned a Master of Business Administration from Grand Canyon University.  I also earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Colorado State University.

Brad Kurth

Construction Superintendent

The interaction and coordination between team members on projects as well as taking the project from a plan to completion is what I enjoy most. It’s always nice after you’re complete knowing that the client would be glad to have you back for another project.

I have over 40 years of experience in commercial, institutional and industrial construction projects from conception through design to occupancy. My experience as an estimator, project engineer, project coordinator, project manager, and structural designer enable me to excel at my role coordinating craft trades and subcontractors while monitoring progress, quality and safety.

Education: I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
